Craft Inspiration – Monogram Door Hanger July 23, 2012

Filed under: Crafts — mypinterestadventure @ 11:43 pm

Ok, so I saw this pin which inspired me to create my own monogram, with something that was more my style!  My style, well sparkles and feathers!  So, what I did was purchase a wooden monogram letter “C”, some glitter scrapbook paper, gems, and some feathers from Michael’s.  What I did was cut the glitter paper so it would lay directly over the C, and I hot glued the paper on the C.  Then, I hot glued gems all along the C.  When I was finished, I glued the feathers to the back of the C for some more decoration.  I love it!  And I’ve gotten so many compliments, in fact I’ve made some for some of my family.  I even made my own pin for Pinterest.

Finished product hanging on my front door!!!

Here are some of the others I did.

It’s hard to tell, but the “M” is purple!

This was fun and easy!

Craft Inspiration – Shadow Box July 9, 2012

Ok, so this time I thought I would post a craft instead of a recipe.  I saw this pin and knew I had to try this.  I’m pretty sure the pin was something professionally made, but I was determined to make something similar and more my style myself!  The pin is a picture of a shadow box that on the inside said “admit one” and had a little design to it, but the cool thing was on top of the box it had a slit where you could drop all your ticket stubs inside.  I though that this would be a cool display for my Reds tickets, concert tickets, movie tickets, etc.  Better then just having all that laying around.

So, I found a shadow box at Marshall’s for $15 I believe.  I spent around $10(maybe not even that much) on the decorations for the inside at Michael’s.

Here is what I started with: This is what I bought to start with.

The first thing I wanted to do was attempt to cut a slit in the top of the shadow box so I could easily drop my ticket stubs into the box.  I first measured and drew a where I wanted my opening to be.  You can see my pencil marking in the picture.  Next I took my drill and a small drill bit and drilled an opening big enough for a hacksaw blade to fit into.  Once I drilled the small opening, I took a hacksaw blade and sawed the rest of the opening.  I’m sure there are better tools out there to do this, but this is all I had at my disposal.    I know it’s kind of hard to see in the pic, but I promise it’s there.

Once I cleaned up the mess I decorated the inside of the shadow box.  I used some scrapbook black glitter paper for the background.  Since I go to a bunch of Reds games I wanted to incorporate baseball into my theme as well as the movie theme.  So, I used a Reds sticker and some baseball and movie scrapbooking stickers.

Here is my decorations, I didn’t put much at the bottom because I knew my ticket stubs would fall there.

Lastly, I put in all my old ticket stubs that I could find!  I thought it turned out pretty cool!  I’m going to hang this in my office room with all my ball stuff.
